Death’s Head Moth Pendant Necklace

Description

Death’s Head Moth Pendant Necklace

Stylised death’s head hawk moth pendant in metallic silver tone finish. This charm is presented on a black leather thong, with zinc alloy extension chain and lobster clasp. The charm is based on the death’s head hawk moth, which has a distinctive skull-like marking on its thorax. This moth could also make a loud ‘chirping’ or ‘squeaking’ noise when alarmed which led it to be associated with death omens.

There are three species of hawk moth all named after the Greek Moirai who were associated with death: Acherontia – atropos (who cut the thread of life), styx (river of the dead) and lachesis (who allotted life). It was frequently used as a symbol of the afterlife and a harbinger of death, but can also symbolise transformation and overcoming hardships.

Pendant approx. size 42 x 35 mm – made of zinc alloy metal (lead & cadmium free/ nickel safe).

Presented in a purple drawstring organza bag.
